Digital Michigan Splint | Digital Workflow and 48h Delivery for Your Clinic

Discover Smileep's digital Michigan splint: precise fit, patient comfort and fast delivery. An effective clinical solution for bruxism.

bruxism splint

If your patient needs a Michigan-type splint, you need a solution that is precise, durable and genuinely digital. At Smileep, we manufacture Splint Brux®, our 3D occlusal splint based on the functional design of the Michigan splint, specifically developed for bruxism and TMJ disorder cases.

The difference is in the process: from intraoral scanning to 3D printing, everything is completed in a digital workflow, without intermediate manual steps. And the material, Dental LT Clear Resin V2, is a Class IIa biocompatible resin certified for long-term intraoral use, with exceptional strength, high stability and a transparent polished finish that improves comfort and aesthetics for the patient.

Splint Brux®: the custom Michigan splint with a true digital workflow

At Smileep, we understand that a Michigan splint is not just another occlusal splint. When the goal is to control occlusion and guide mandibular movement, the design is everything.

That is why we created Splint Brux®, our Michigan-type splint manufactured by 3D printing with a fully customised design for each patient.

What makes it a real Michigan splint?

  • Bilateral canine guidance and adjusted incisal guidance
  • Stable, functional occlusal plane
  • Straight vestibular contour
  • Lingual gingival extension for additional stability
  • Centric relation adjusted to the digital design

All of this is designed in CAD from the intraoral scan, with no need for physical models or improvised adjustments.

The key to a digital workflow is not just printing: it is being able to design exactly what the case needs. More information about Splint Brux® here.

Protocol for a digital Michigan splint

To design a Michigan-type splint such as Splint Brux®, we need to start from a high-quality digital base. The success of the final fit depends directly on the precision of the intraoral scan, so we always recommend following these basic guidelines:

1. STL files from the intraoral scan

Michigan splint

It is also possible to scan the occlusion with a digital vertical dimension, which defines the ideal space the splint should occupy. For more details about this protocol, we recommend reading the following article: Learn how to perform an intraoral scan for the 3D occlusal splint: Splint Brux

Which files do we need?

  • Full upper arch
  • Full lower arch
  • Occlusal record (in maximum intercuspation)

2. Custom design: full control over the digital Michigan splint

Michigan splint

Each Splint Brux® is designed 100% individually in advanced CAD software, adapting to the real functional and anatomical needs of each patient.

You choose and tell us:

  • Whether you want canine guidance, incisal guidance or both
  • Vestibular contour: straight or scalloped
  • Lingual extension: over the gingiva for greater retention or only over dental surfaces
  • Whether reinforcement is needed for retentive, unstable or severely worn arches

Our technical team interprets each case individually; we do not simply replicate models. Because a Michigan-type splint must be designed, not copied.

Personalised online review: clinical validation before manufacturing: We offer dentists a digital review protocol that allows them to validate the splint design before manufacturing, whenever this is indicated in the prescription. This option is especially useful in complex or demanding cases, ensuring that the final design aligns with the clinical plan and meets the functional objectives of the treatment. When precision matters, control stays in your hands.

Frequently asked questions about the digital Michigan splint

FAQ

How long does a digital Michigan-type splint take to arrive?

The standard delivery time for a Splint Brux® splint is 48 working hours once the STL files and prescription have been received, excluding the day the STL files are sent.

Is the splint delivered ready to fit?

Yes. Thanks to the custom design and the precision of 3D printing, it does not require additional chairside adjustments. The goal is for you to deliver it directly to the patient at the first appointment.

What material is used to manufacture a 3D-printed digital Michigan splint?

We work exclusively with Dental LT Clear Resin V2 by Formlabs, a Class IIa biocompatible resin designed for long-term splint use. It is strong, aesthetic, polishable and clinically safe.

What happens if the patient loses the splint?

If the patient loses the splint, there is no need to repeat the intraoral scan. At Smileep we keep your STL files and the approved design, so we can manufacture a new splint in 48h and send it directly to you. No extra appointments or inconvenience for the patient.

Does the Splint Brux® splint include a warranty in case of fracture?

Yes. Every case includes a 1-year fracture warranty. If the splint breaks under normal use within that period, we reproduce it at no additional cost using the original scan. You only need to notify us and we take care of the rest.

Do I need to scan again if I need a replacement?

No. As long as the original scan and digital design were correctly sent and validated, you can request a replacement without repeating the scan. This applies both to lost splints and to fracture replacements during the warranty period.

Can I request a design modification when repeating the splint?

Yes. If you need small functional or anatomical modifications, you can indicate them when requesting the replacement and our design team will take them into account when generating the new splint.
